December 21 - Update
Our plumber/HVAC fella was on site most of the week. We have a working furnace and running water AND toilets!!!! How very exciting this is.
The siding was all finished up this week as well.
The floors were laid this week and they are very nice. We did have issues with the installers marking up the walls in every room, really wished they had been more careful. They either scratched, left black marks or gouged them. We have met with our supplier who hired them. He was shocked by the amount of damage and he will have the walls fixed. I gave him the name of our dry wall mudder & painter to hire them. Hopefully this gets fixed up early January.
Above & below - two front bedrooms
Main bathroom...with toilet, sink and taps!! :)
Above is Master bedroom.
Below - ensuite bathroom looking into bedroom.
What do you think of this? (Feel free to post a comment anytime). We think it's beautiful!! The house is really coming together. Counter top is penciled in for installation on January 6, 2014! Now that the floor has been laid, the cabinet installer will be back to put the kick plates at the bottom of the cupboards & permanently place the island.

December 15 - View from Apartment
As apartments go, we are pretty lucky. Especially with our view. We are in the back building of the complex overlooking the green space along the Seine River. This is the one and same river that flows behind the house in Lorette!
Our view is spectacular and we love to watch the deer come out of the bush to graze and visit.

Our daily visitors...yesterday there were 7!!!
December 15 - Update
Chug-chug-chug...things are still moving along.
The cold put a stop to the siding installation last week (-30 C as I type this) but tomorrow it's suppose to warm up to around -10 C so they said that they would be back to finish it up. :]
Plumber/HVAC fella has been onsite since Wednesday and is making great headway. We should have a toilet by the end of the week. (It's the small things in life that get us so excited!!)
Alanna & her Journeyman will be on site starting Tuesday to hook up the well pump, septic field, HRV, HWT & furnace. The majority of the light fixtures are on site so Alanna will start to install these as well. Once we get the outlets & switches she will do that too.
The wood stove will be installed in the new year. Almost had it in before Christmas but I forgot to order the tile/concrete board heat pad that goes underneath, so we did that on Thursday. My bad.
They started installing the floor on Wednesday and should be done by Tuesday this week. The 3 bedrooms & WIC are completed & they have laid the tile in the ensuite & main bathrooms (they still have to do the grout).

And for those of you who are wondering how Alanna's pup is doing...he's getting big and is such a sweetheart. He is so laid back, loves to cuddle and thinks that he still fits in a lap.

December 8 - Exterior Almost Complete
Siding is almost complete. Downspouts and eaves troughs are up. The downspouts are the same colour as the siding so they disappear. The windows doors have a 3" trim and in the spring we will be installing the shutters on the front windows to finish off the look.
December 8 - Cabinets Installed & Flooring Onsite
All of the cabinets were installed last week. They are coming Thursday afternoon to template for the granite counter tops & I'm hoping that they will be installed before Christmas.
As you can tell, I prefer drawers to cupboards.
Space between cabinets is for the dishwasher
Main Bathroom
Ensuite
2 piece bathroom off mudroom
On the left, tile for front entrance/mudroom. Piles of boxes are engineered hardwood for everywhere else. Should be installed this coming week. Will confirm tomorrow.

December 2 - Interior Update
The inside of the house has been painted & we are very happy with the job they did. Our designer suggested that we keep the colours neutral until we get a feel for the house and see what the natural light is like once we have the furniture in.
One more coat of drywall mud and we can paint this little wall in the laundry room.
Guest room
Office/den
Master Bedroom
Thank you to Susan & Glenn who came out tonight to help me prep for cabinets to be installed. We vacuumed once again and then washed the floors where the cabinets are going at the end of the week. Washed up the kitchen & 3 bathrooms a few times...til we ran out of water. lol

November 30 - Exterior is Coming Along
The guys were on site most days last week...a couple of stormy, windy ones kept them away. They are doing a great job and are working around the house as to ensure that the corners line up.
Alanna & Marc came out today to move some HVAC parts out of the living room to the basement as all of the cabinets are being delivered on Wednesday & we need the space. They will be installed on Thursday & Friday. Cuda came outside with me to pick up some bits of siding. He's a great puppy - very friendly & lovable.

November 25 - Moving Right Along
The siding guys did a bit more today. It was very windy which is why we think that more wasn't done. Went right from work to have a look in daylight then back after dinner to do some work. It was still very windy tonight...30 km/hr with gusts to 50 km/hr. Wish our wood stove was in and we could just sit by a toasty fire!
The painter started today and sprayed all of the inside with the primer coat. So now it is all white. It might not look like much but it is very exciting to see this happening! :) Marshall will meet him at the house tomorrow to confirm what colour is for what room. Painter said he will do all ceilings tomorrow as they will all be white.
The plumber was on site today and plumbed for the washer & laundry sink in the faux wall that Alanna & Marshall built last week. Since this is on an outside wall the pipes can't go in the wall (they'll freeze) and a little 'wall' had to be built.
We put the drywall up tonight and got one coat of mud on. I must say that with my wonderful teacher (Marshall, of course) I did ok with my first drywall attempt of cutting the holes & screwing on the sheet. We didn't want to hold up the painters for this little area, it will be painted after. Laundry tub will be on the right, washer in the middle and dryer on the left. (This is under the window).
I ordered all the light fixtures today. Most are in stock but some might take about a month. Once the painting is done, the electricians will be busy installing plugs, switches & the fixtures we can get right away.

November 21 - Update
Things are moving along again...so wonderful.
This is as far as our HVAC guy got last week. He was supposed to be on site 2 days this week, but there was a big 'push' on a big job he's doing so he put us off once again. ARGH!!
Our electrician apprentice was working today in the garage and brought her helper. His name is Cuda (Alanna's boyfriend Marc has a 1965 Barracuda so this is where his name came from). They got him last weekend at 12 weeks old. He's a Rottweiler/St Bernard cross. Good thing they live on 10 acres...he'll have lots of room to run. He is such a sweetie and still very timid but Alanna can do anything with him...and she does so he gets used to it while he's a pup. He's going to be a big boy...look at that paw!

The siders were on site yesterday & today...very exciting!! It was -15 (with a windchill of -21) today and tomorrow it will be even colder so they won't be back til Monday when it's supposed to warm up to about -4 (with windchill of about -12).
The windows & doors have a 3" trim which will accentuate the contrast between the siding & the white of the windows & the garage door trim has been clad in aluminium. A lot of intricate work to get started but once this is done the siding will go up quite quickly. The colour is called Castlemore - a grey/green, like a castle stone.
