January 29 - Soffit & Fascia

It's been a little warmer the last couple of days...Henri is continuing what Marshall started on the weekend & got around to the back of the house. We were out there about 5:30 this evening and just as Marshall was about to point out more Prairie Chicken tracks, 4 of them exploded out of the snow right in front of us...startling us both (OK, me a little more than Marshall)

The basement windows should arrive on Friday.
Marshall boarded them up a few weeks ago to keep the snow out until we can get them installed.

This is as far as is done so far. This will keep the snow from blowing in. Next job is to work on the electrical inside.

January 27 - It's Been C-c-c-c-cold

As most of you are aware, it has been so cold here over the last couple of weeks that the opportunity to work outside has been minimal. This weekend was finally warmer (everything is relative and it wasn't the -43 C with windchill that it has been this last week) so Marshall was out working yesterday and today. Alanna bundled up and worked with him today.
Here's what's been done over the last couple of weeks...

The framework for the soffit over the front porch, the potlights and J-channel for the soffit.

Potlights and J-Channel.

Prairie Chicken (Partridge) tracks. Loving the wildlife!

Good thing we have 4 Wheel Drive...Snow is pretty deep. Marshall hired a neighbour to plow it out today. (The fella who lives in the house on the left in this picture.)

Marshall up on the roof. You can see the potlight over the door between the ladders.

They finished the top gable end at the front.

Sunsets are beautiful, even in the winter!!

January 13 - Update

Again, no visible changes, but things are happening.

  • The trench for the Hydro wires is all filled in.
  • The new basement windows are on order. The concrete guy took full responsibility for his error and is paying for 3 new windows that will still meet the egress code. Hopefully these are received and installed by the end of January (fingers crossed).
  • The framework for the 3 pocket doors is done.
  • We've been doing a fair bit of research/planning: appliances; bathroom vanities; kitchens; etc.
Marshall is out there today planning on starting the soffit & fascia and a few other tasks.

I know we did not get the blizzard that our friends in Newfoundland did, but it was still very crazy here on Friday. Have a look at these pictures that Marshall took today. Once we get the soffit and fascia up, it will keep the snow out. We are just happy that we have windows, we would have needed a snow blower to clear the snow!! Marshall went out on Thursday to cover up the basement windows to keep snow out in case we got the blizzard that they were forecasting...very happy he did! Can't imagine how it looked out there on Friday night when the wind was howling.

Snow sitting on the rafters.

Hallway is shoveled...looking into one of the front bedrooms.

In hallway by the bedrooms looking into the dining room.

The compressor & saw even got snowed on.

January 5 - Weekend Update

Well, what has the New Year brought? No major visible changes but still work has been done.

  • We spent last Saturday shopping for plumbing hardware (faucets); door knobs & locks and appliances. We are now waiting for pricing from our supplier on these items.
  • Diamond Construction installed the pump in the well and ran the water line to the basement
  • The soffit and fascia has been delivered...waiting to be installed now
  • Today Glenn came out and helped Marshall install boards for drywall backing in the ceiling. This entailed Glenn cutting the wood and passing it up to Marshall who stayed in the ceiling and nailed them all in place. It was a huge time saver and his help is greatly appreciated. They will finish up tomorrow!
