October 5 & 6 - Time to Start Moving

The focus this weekend was to empty the basement, etc of our city house and move/store it to our country house. The new owners take possession on October 26 @ 12:01 am so we have to start moving out!
On Saturday Laurie, Joel, Alanna & Marc brought out 2 trucks full & a trailer load.
On Sunday Glenn joined the party and he and the kids brought out 5 truck loads & 2 trailer loads. And thanks to Tracy who helped pack up for a while as well.
Really appreciate you guys - thank you so much.

The start...floor is swept & some pallets are down ready to store bins & boxes.

Basement is filling up fast. A very productive weekend!

October 3 & 4 - Garage Floor

On Thursday (Oct 3), George & his crew were on site to prep for concrete. They finished up the re-bar in the 'dips' that will be supporting the floor.
Re-bar in dips and tarps left on site to cover the doors after concrete is poured.
Garage floor is poured, waiting for the power trowler guys to do their thing. (The same machine as was used for the basement floor). Tarps are covering the doors to try to keep some warmth in there.

Above & below...all smoothed out. These guys do great work!!

All done. In a week we can drive on it. 3 overhead doors, 2 man doors & 3 garage door openers are on order...soon will be sealed up from the elements & ready to use. :)

October 3 - Another Late Night

Tonight it was prepping for the blown in insulation...the sun room ceiling had to be closed in. Thanks to Laurie, Joel & Karl for working late into the night to get this task completed.

Vapour Barrier is up & sealed.

Karl, Marshall & Joel.

Joel putting up the boards.

Making the access door.

October 2 - Thanks Girls

Laurie & Alanna helped Marshall tonight with a few time sensitive tasks so the tapers could continue their work. It was a very late night for all. Again I apologize for the sideways pictures. This website is wonky with pictures that I have had to rotate. Don't forget that if you click on the picture they open up larger and easier to see. :)

Alanna is cutting the second 'display' area on the wall by the front closets.

Ready for mud & tape.

There were a couple of areas in the basement stairwell that needed drywall so Marshall is finishing this up.

October 2 - Update

Things are moving along...

Today we took a drive to Granite Mountain, in the town of Lac du Bonnet, to choose our kitchen counter top. Wow, what a gorgeous place. I wish I could buy it all - there are some gorgeous slabs of rock up there that I would love as artwork on my wall! It was a beautiful day & the 90 minute drive up there was wonderful. They are a quarry but also import granite from all over the world. The gal was telling us that they estimate there being enough granite in their quarry to last about another 300 years!

This is only a portion of what they have in stock.

Here's one of ours. We have this one and the one behind it. The colour is Juparana Santa Cecelia and they are from Brazil. The sun was shining so you can't see the top as it is too bright. Hard to take a picture in between the racks, but you get the idea.

Couldn't resist taking this picture...gotta love the prairies.

After some tense moments trying to find a taper...Walter & his crew started today. So far so good!! They should be done in a week!

Our buddy Ray (who brings us dirt, gravel, etc) has spread all the piles of dirt he brought a while back. Still need a few more truck loads to ease the slope a bit. We built about 6" above grade just in case that little river behind us ever decided to flood (but there is no history of it doing so).
